Hello Hatters, I am trying to install VMware-workstation-4.5.1-7568 on Fedora Core 1. The install procedure wants to build the vmmon module, for which it wants kernel source. I have downloaded kernel-2.4.22-1.2115.nptl.src.rpm and installed it (with "rpm -i kernel-2.4.22-1.2115.nptl.src.rpm") but that does not install anything in /usr/src/linux, where the VMware install wants to find it.
I'm new to Red Hat and rpm, so I'm very much at sea. If anyone can help me get vmmon built, I would be greatly appreciative. Thanks in advance.
You really should look at the VMware website for more info, and read their documentation. Admittedly their documentation does not mention 'Fedora' at all, however most info related to Redhat is relevant to Fedora.
You need to install 'kernel-source' rpm. That is different to kernel-2.4.22-1.2115.nptl.src.rpm .
BTW I would also update your system, several new kernels have been released since 2115.
Cheers, Michael
