Sorry it took so long to get back to this. I've been
puttingin long hours building a multi-site VPN with
road-warriors. It's been fun, but has more or less
consumed me for the past few days.

This points to an nmbd (configuration) failure. If you
have connectivity by address but not by name, then the
name resolution is the culprit. Looking at your
smb.conf, it seems you've stripped out everything
relating to name resolution.

There's actually several parts that all need to be
configured so they mesh, and as it's just past 1AM now,
I'm going to call it a night.

I'll get back to you after I've had some rest and time
to study my smb.conf and the smb.conf man page a bit.

By the time we're through, it'll be painless. I promise.

Good idea!
