Not too sure with gpm. Are you running a laptop with multiple mouse
devices (Eg. trackpad and external mouse), or do you use a bus mouse?

If you are unlikely to use the mouse in text mode (I never do), you can
just disable the service. As root,

chkconfig gpm off
