Hi,

I installed Oracle 9i in my FC1 (kernel-2.4.22-1.2174.nptl) then created
the user "oracle" and the groups "dba", "oinstall", "opache" then linked
the "oracle" user to "dba", "oinstall", "oracle" and "bioinfo"... and user
"apache" to "apache" and "oinstall" groups.

Trying to install the patch "p3095277_9204_LINUX.zip", I run the
"runInstaller" located in the Disk1 folder created by that patch like
this:

[oracle@tryps oracle]$ /usr/local/oracle/92040/Disk1/runInstaller
Initializing Java Virtual Machine from
./stage/Components/oracle.swd.jre/1.3.1.0.0/1/DataFiles/Expanded/jre/linux/bin/java.
Please wait...

variable.

I have java 1.3.1. installed:

[oracle@tryps oracle]$ rpm -qa | grep jdk
jdk-1.3.1_11-fcs

I am not sure at what moment it happened but my X is not working
properly... now I cannot even load "nedit" or "synaptic":

[oracle@tryps oracle]$ nedit
NEdit: Can't open display

My ".xsession-error" is like this:

[user@tryps user]$ more .xsession-errors
/etc/X11/gdm/PreSession/Default: Registering your session with wtmp and
utmp
/etc/X11/gdm/PreSession/Default: running: /usr/bin/X11/sessreg -a -w
/var/log/wtmp -u /var/run/utmp -x "/var/gdm/:0.Xservers" -h "" -l ":0"
"davila"
SESSION_MANAGER=local/tryps:/tmp/.ICE-unix/2859

XSetInputFocus (None) or with RevertToNone instead of RevertToPointerRoot,
this is a minor bug in some application. If you can figure out which
application causes this please report it as a bug against that
application.

and my ".Xauthority" is :

[user@tryps user]$ more .Xauthority
alhost.localdomain

Trying to read the ".Xauthority" with "pico" shows strange characters.

For instance, the XFree* packages installed in my machine are:

[davila@tryps davila]$ rpm -qa | grep XFree
XFree86-Mesa-libGLU-4.3.0-55
XFree86-libs-4.3.0-55
XFree86-xauth-4.3.0-55
XFree86-twm-4.3.0-55
XFree86-devel-4.3.0-55
XFree86-font-utils-4.3.0-55
XFree86-base-fonts-4.3.0-55
XFree86-xfs-4.3.0-55
XFree86-tools-4.3.0-55
XFree86-100dpi-fonts-4.3.0-55
XFree86-truetype-fonts-4.3.0-55
XFree86-libs-data-4.3.0-55
XFree86-Mesa-libGL-4.3.0-55
XFree86-4.3.0-55
XFree86-75dpi-fonts-4.3.0-55

One question is: what should be in the file "/etc/hosts", any examples ?

Could you have any tips to solve this problem ?

Thanks a lot, Alberto
