In fact MS encouraged the workaround to be only on the MS disk shipped by the vendor to the omission of BIOS updates. If you have problems with ACPI BIOS bugs thump on the hardware vendor for a BIOS update. Intel has been a good guy in the ACPI game, give a search on their web site. Hardware vendors do not share Beta hardware with the open source community. In part this is because there is no single point of contact and the open source process exposes new hardware plans "too soon". Thus the community has to play catch up.... Send the hardware vendor a snail mail letter letting them know that you are sad that you were unable to run Linux on your shinny new box.
