(Intel graphics sometimes support BIOS-supported modes, which means you're stuck with 1024x768 on a 1400x1050 notebook.) I can prove that this is not true for several laptops (take a model and Google for install reports, HW specs, etc.) and if you want a "modern" laptop you will face one or more of these problems.
