Hm, I can't replicate your problem here.  XFWM worked out-of-the-box for
me (but I did compile from source rather than using a repo, maybe that
has something to do with it).  About the only thing I changed was to
change the keymaps to more closely match Metacity (contact me off-list
if you'd like a copy of the keymap file I'm using).  

Currently, the only "problem" I have with XFWM is that alt-tab window
cycling picks up the panels (i.e., it selects and highlights them)
whereas Metacity didn't.
