There are many options. My personal favorite is to add a quick launcher.
Right click in the panel -> add -> quick launcher. You can then add or
remove applets within the launcher by right clicking on it. ---------

I know of 2 other fairly straight-forward methods: 1) Easiest, find item in the Kmenu-list and drag to your application bar

2) right-click on the kmenu-list button, and it brings up a menu which includes 'Menu-Editor'. Use this for making buttons for applications that don't already have them.
