If she's (already) in Japan, I'm sure she can easily get

I think it's reasonably priced and works with linux, too!

The included software works on Windows ONLY though...

Works with EPG so she can even schedule programs to
record--she can even use her cellphone to add/edit/delete
schedule. (Of course, if you know how to do it, you can do
all of these even inside linux.)

Just find one with Royal Philips Electronics Chip
(SAA7130/34) -- good quality and works with linux...
