Nah... In few minutes you can setup a local repository for APT or YUM 
and use these tools (apt, yum) localy... This is also for updates and 
aditional packages, just mirror entire tree of f.e. FreshRPMS repo on 
your disk and access it via apt.

# apt-get isntall foo

is very easy IMHO.

Since it sucked? It did nothing more then just wrapping on RPM, now it 
is decent to have a package dependency tracking tool.
