Hm, funny thing is: I'm having the same problem: grip is very slow.
Annoyingly, RHL7.3's grip just flew on the very same hardware (Plextor
12/10/32S SCSI burner) - *also* with cdparanoia, same settings.

Frankly, I'm stumped.
