ioapic/IRQ assignment question

I have run into an issue switching from a 2.6.5-derived SuSE kernel to current 2.6.15 and later kernels. With the older kernel, PCI-X devices were being assigned IRQ numbers like 79 and such. I did not observe any IRQ sharing in that environment. When running current kernels, the same hardware is only using a smaller range of IRQ numbers and some are shared. Is there a way to get the old behavior back? I tried adding apic and lapic
on the kernel command line, but that did not help.

I hope someone on the list can give me some kind of pointer to what affects this IRQ assignment. I really want to avoid sharing IRQs, just like it was on the older SuSE
kernel. I tried things like apic=bigsmp and such, but that didn't help.
