I've seen similar faults, from time to time.  If it's a BIOS bug, why
does it only show up on Linux?  And has anybody seen whether turning off
key repeat, or changing the speeds/intervals, in the BIOS makes any
difference.

Because each OS interacts with the BIOS differently.
