LaserJet 1020 CUPS SMB

Just replaced my old 6L with a 1020. I can't seem to print using CUPS via SMB. I have tried all combinations of 1000, 1005, 1010, 1012 and 1015 printers in CUPS using the hpijs driver and any other driver offered by cups. Most of the time I see the test document show up in the WinXP print queue as "Remote Downlevel Document" and it just gets stuck in the queue. Sometimes the older drivers will cause the printer to initialize (amber/green flashing lights) then stop. To clear the print queue I have to delete the document and power cycle the printer.  FWIW, my Epson Stylus is set up the same way and it work so I am guessing this is just a driver problem.

Is any one using this printer in this configuration?
