Not smbmount has to be chmod u+s!

1) su - <enter root password>
2) chmod u+s /usr/bin/smbmnt /usr/bin/smbumount
3) in /etc/fstab entry line for samba share mounts at 4th column
something like
credentials=/home/$user/.samba,uid=500,gid=500,rw,umask=002,noauto,users
4) mount samba shares then run like
mount /mn/samba_mountpoint
