It seems to me that you are arguing to replace one set of problems with another. The fact that it's less of a problem for you doesn't mean that it's less of a problem for me. I, for example, have directories that contain many files that differ in name only by case. Maybe you can't think of a good reason to do that, but it happens to be a very convenient arrangement in my case.
