Jim, I have no idea why I they won't play. I have the same configuration & play *.mov file. Try to see where the xine options are pointing by right clicking check show controls a window will pop up. Under the gui tab change configuration level to Expert & click the apply button. The other Tabs will come up with options to configure. Once this happens. Click the decoder tab & make sure that path to Win32 codecs is: /usr/lib/codecs or /usr/bin/win32. If not change it to the first one (if you made the link) it will work anyway. Play it with: xine --verbose filename.move 2> xineerror.tx You will have a log on while it failed. Now you can start google. I remember a few months ago I was getting something similar like: xdg-screensaver: Window 56624079 does not exist I google it & if I well remember it was something related to my X server settings. I thing it was on higher resolution. I changed I thing to 1024x756 or so & after that I was able to play the movies. Google & you will find the answers. Delete the old entries & post what you get on your error file & the solution if you find it for other people to use. That's the beauty of Linux if come across issues there's always someone who might come across them before & will give you a hand.
