Is this with a fresh user account, where no old configuration files are still being used? Or perhaps xmms still looks for OSS by default? Try to delete your old configuration. Or reconfigure XMMS to use a different output plugin, such as one for ALSA or Pulse Audio (package "xmms-pulse"). Alternatively, consider switching to a new [actively maintained] audio player.
