Thanks a lot! That comment led me to investigate on the right track. I
wasn't using ssl in my offlineimaprc config. Turning it on, made
everything work perfectly. I even tried out notmuch (my original
intention for installing offlineimap).

On that note, notmuch seems to be a very lightweight and simple email
client backend. Particularly since I was looking for a client which
lets me search emails easily, and notmuch is search based making it a
perfect candidate. :)
