I've never found any documentation about the rd_* stuff but if you
look at the scripts in initramfs* you will find that the rd_* options
help the initrd enable and disable various disk properties - I assume
to speed up boot.

The rd_MD_UUID entries ensure that udev creates the mds whose
constituent disks have that uuid.
