The sudo command does not prompt for the root password. It doesn't "remember the password". It makes an entry in a log with the epoch. When next invoked, sudo checks the latest entry, and if less than a certain amount of time has elapsed, simply goes on. If more than the time limit has elapsed, then it prompts, and makes a new entry.
