As far as I could see, everything looks OK.
However, glxgears is a lousy OpenGL benchmark tool as it heavily
dependent on CPU load.

Are you seeing the same slowdown when you enable compiz / KDE-composite,
or install a simple OpenGL game such as extremetuxracer (yum for it)?

P.S. Is your CPU idle? (top should give you some insight)
