I haven't tried it myself, or looked at the livecd-iso-to-disk code, but are you sure that you want /dev/sdc1 and not /dev/sdc? /dev/sdc1 is the first partition on your third SCSI drive (which includes USB storage). /dev/sdc in your entire third SCSI drive. Unless you write a boot sector to the first 512 bytes of /dev/sdc, you will get exactly the error you are seeing.
