I have the same G33 chipset but in x86_64, and it have a memory leak
some weeks ago , so I have rebuild the latest intel x driver 8.1, mesa,
libdrm,

so maybe in the updates is missing a update to any of above

and with the kernel 2.6.30.5-43 fixed the boot with kernel mode setting,
with the past kernels 2.6.29 was a black screen at login in kde

the intel driver 8.1 only supports UXA, and I have working it with no
xorg.conf no crashes for 4 days uptime but don't support XAA nor EXA,
