I see something similar on 3 different systems (one Intel, one nvidia,
and one not currently available, but probably intel) - 50% is
effectively muted. I also managed to set the volume on the latter to
127%, as shown by alsamixer. I think I adjusted one of the other
controls with amixer. The sound was completely distorted so I think
alsamixer was probably correct. I've not managed to repeat this
though.
