Not too surprising...  Good quality analogue sound capture is something
that's not a big drawcard to PCs, so they don't seem to get designed for
it, and a computer is a very noisy (electrically) thing.  Those who want
really good sound tend to get specialist cards, but even cheap cards can
be a big improvement.
