I just found a posting elsewhere about wireless throughput slowdowns for
some drivers, and there was a suggestion that changing the AP from mixed
mode to G-only may help with achieved speeds - I will try that again when I
have the machines available at the same time and report back.  In my case
the AP is a Linksys WAG54G2 - but I don't know if this is a relevant factor
or not until I test it.
