in interim of last post, i have been on inet browsing various pages.

one thing i was aware of is that 'noscript' makes a 'screech' sound when
i open a page. in 'noscript' options, this is called 'block.wav'.

if you have 'noscript' installed, click 'noscript' icon, select
'options > notification', uncheck 'audio feedback when scripts are blocked'.

if you have 'noscript' installed, and some how your 'block.wav' file has
been changed, this could be cause.
