Use 'system-config-network' to setup ip addresses. Do select "Activate device when computer starts" option. Also unselect "Controlled by NetworkManager" option. Now when you close the "system-configure-network", it will copy the gateway address to netmask due to a bug. Now edit the interface file "/etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0' and just fix the changed netmask. Once that is done, disable 'NetworkManager' service and enable 'network' by running 'setup' on shell. Reboot and see everything is in place.
