never just pull a power cord, unless that is only way to remove power.
if it is, pull *fast* by _plug_, _never_by_cord.

you need to pull fast to cut down arcing that is caused between plug
and receptacle. arcing causes a current rush which can be very harmful,
and damage a power supply.

if you pulled by cord, try another power cord. you could have separated
cord wires from plug.

if he first tries a new power supply, caution when powering up. do so
_only_ with a volt meter connected or using a power supply test block.

watch for power. if full power does not kick in quick, shut it down
quicker. you have additional problems.

if you want to trouble shoot power supply, let me know and i will dig
up pin out for power supply to mainboard connector. [if friend does not
already have].

xt power supply [you do have newer 'xt' type mainboard?] has a 'standby'
+5v that is used for push button power on. this +5v must be jumpered to
another pin to bring full power up.
