Ok, that was it. I moved the /var/log/named to /var/named/chroot/var/log directory, ran restorecon -vR named, chown -R named:named named, restarted named and the logs are now being written into. Only one snag: selinux. So, I fired of a question to the selinux mailing list asking for a resolution. Thanks for your help!
