No, I haven't tried .netrc yet, mainly because I'm not familiar with
it. I do seem to be able to login to other ftp sites where the
passwords are standard ASCII characters. I'll try .netrc later today.
think about this then,
example .netrc file:
machine myworksite.com
login raymond.r
password letmein
machine anotherftp.net
login ray.c
password open4me
edit .netrc with hex editor to change password to non ascii hex.
save file, change permissions to rw-------, and you are done.
to ftp login at myworksite.com
[ray@myhomesite ~]$ ftp myworksite.com
ftp>
what could be easier???
True, and I'm fortunate that this works for the command-line ftp. Now,
do you have any secrets for making this work with GNOME's "Connect to
Server" system so I can have the server mounted as a drive on my desktop?
Thanks for your help,
Raymond
