I put this line in my /etc/fstab file
/dev/sr0 /media/cdrom auto pamconsole,exec,noauto,managed 0 0
The cdrom doesn't mount on bootup which I believe to be correct due to
the noauto part.
I played around with the samba config and found that the paths I was
using for mount and unmount were incorrect, corrected the paths and now
it mounts and unmounts fine.

Why don't you just copy the contents of the cd to a folder and share
the folder with samba?
Daniel Tweedy:
Cause I dont just want to share 1 particular cd, if I did then that
would be one way to achieve it.

I want to be able to access any cd I put in the drive via samba
A simple solution *might* be to make use of how auto mounting will mount
a CD within /media/, and share out the whole media directory.
