Look like the correct location in Firefox 3.0b5 is now:
	Edit->Preferences->Applications

bottom half of the
page (Manage in earlier firefoxes) which when clicked on will allow you to choose what program or plugin will be used for each kind of mime.type. That might help you solve your problem.
