The PATH variable seems to already have a value in it:
PATH=$PATH:$HOME/bin
As for the locate command I got this error:
locate: can not open '/var/lib/mlocate/mlocate.db' : No such file or directory

Take the path that you're presented, and add it to the PATH variable in
the root user's .bash_profile.
