I notice that Mauriat Miranda's "Personal Fedora 9 Installation Guide"
at <http://www.mjmwired.net/resources/mjm-fedora-f9.html>
deals with this explicitly, suggesting

sudo  sed -i 's/flip-hebrew/#flip-hebrew/' /etc/mplayer/mplayer.conf

I find this guide exceptionally good,
particularly if you don't want to think about things too much.
