F9: no more modprobe.conf

I noticed that modprobe.conf isn't present - is it not needed anymore?
I remember that in the past I had to add a line in it for a module needed by
lm_sensors, or to specify some options related to the sound cards modules
loading order. How is all this handled now? If I create a modprobe.conf
file, will it be used as before?
