F9 and Matrox MGA 400 framebufffer

It looks like the version of Xorg in Fedora-9/i386 doesn't like my
ancient Matrox MGA 400-series framebuffer. X runs, but the screen is
fairly garbled. Strangely the text consoles (eg. the console on
alt-ctl-Fn) also have problems with every other letter
missing. Strange. Fedora-8/i386 worked beautifully. Anyone else
seeing this? Am I the only one that still has an old Matrox card? ;-)

(That old machine was doing fine sitting next to the stereo serving
mp3's from rhythmbox. Logging in over the net to play mp3's is going
to be a bit of a pain.)
