On FC7 there's a SELinux management system adminstration GUI, and in there's a boolean sub-section which let you set options related to what will be allowed with Samba. There's probably something similarly named on FC8. Sounds like it might be worth your while to get one of those pocketbook Fedora things from a news agent, the ones that are about the size of the Readers Digest, and come with install discs.
