How new's "new"? It's been there for years...
At least one handy thing about it is that it's a simple thing to look at
that shows that the computer hasn't crashed.
I must have logged in quicker before. I overlooked it since its
inception and only recently noticed the clock.
Using the clock as system activity indicator is a good practical use for
the clock I guess.
