No one should keep you from running KDE 3.5.X if that is what you need, you will have to get it from other sources, probably kde-redhat because Fedora will stick with KDE 4.0.X or 4.1.X if it gets there. >If KDE4 isn't ready yet for prime-time, why > release it?? Because the only way that the software becomes better is if we test it and report bugs so that they get fixed and in the end we will all win. I guess the Fedora philosophy answers this question right away. http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Overview <quote> What is Fedora? Fedora is a Linux-based operating system that showcases the latest in free and open source software. Fedora is always free for anyone to use, modify, and distribute. It is built by people across the globe who work together as a community: the Fedora Project. The Fedora Project is open and anyone is welcome to join. The Fedora Project is out front for you, leading the advancement of free, open software and content. </quote> > Under what > conditions does it fold like a house of cards? It has not folded for me, but it has complained about backtrace here and some app has crashed and many debugging errors, etc..etc.. I am attaching a sample to prove what I am writing about. It will still run, but it will take a little bit longer than if it had more memory and a higher processor as well. >Video requirements stricter? Do not know about the video requirements, but many say that KDE is an OS all in itself. And that is saying many things. On another note, I have to say that probably the requirements for KDE and GNOME are equal. Both require 256MB or greater, 512 recommended as the release notes will hopefully state. Someone can clarify here, correct me if I am wrong as well. I cannot find the requirements. I have checked the KDE Pages: http://www.kde.org/announcements/announce-4.0.3.php This page: http://techbase.kde.org/index.php?title=Schedules/KDE4/4.1_Feature_Plan shows how far things are integrated and coming along. Somethings are not there yet, but will be just like Kevin mentioned in another email. Instructions on how to build KDE in Fedora are provided in the page below http://techbase.kde.org/index.php?title=Getting_Started/Build/KDE4/Fedora > > Time will tell. > Ain't that the truth!!
