I haven't changed anything yet from the stock F9-beta install.

For what its worth, on my old (Fedora 7) setup, sounds could be played
simultaneously in both places with no problem. But I don't really need that.
(Except, isn't pulseaudio supposed to mediate exactly such sharing?)
