I can't say I've noticed what OpenOffice.org does, in that regards.  I
use it too infrequently, and across different computers on the LAN.

But I have noticed how the "recent documents" menu item on the Gnome
desktop usually doesn't list many things which have been recently
opened, many of which are NOT "documents".
