A new account won't help much because the package replacement is system-wide, 
an entirely separate Fedora installation is needed if you want to be able to 
revert safely, or you can use a live CD like the F9 Alpha one. Downgrading all 
KDE packages after you upgraded to KDE 4 is a big PITA.

But it's correct that it's safest to use a different account / home directory 
too to make sure your KDE 3 settings won't be touched.
