Bonjour,

There are some troubles if you have an x86_64 install mixed with i386 apps.

I installed f8 x86_64 but for all sounds and videos, I installed i386
apps, for, according to my previous experience with fc6, you come
accross a lot of problems if you install x86_64 video and sound apps.

I had to remove some x86_64 packages, installed at the beginning, and
replaced them by i386 ones.

So far so good.

But, if I update my system, x86_64 packages come back and upset the
update: conflict between xxx new packcages (which I don't want) conflict
with i386 already installed packages....

I can manage this up to a certain limit: I don't know to what extend the
dependencies are and some packages accept to be installed twice: one
version is x86_64, another one is i386.

So, tonight, I came accross this problem: my favorite radio was not
working and I did not know why.... I use mplayer to listen at it.

The culprit was the update I have done this afternoon: pulse-audio was
installed in both version: x86_64 and i386 and the system was blocked....

*Wishes*: is it possible to have two fully separate systems of updates
for x86_64 system: today, running something like

yum update

do not prevent you from installing x86_64 package you don't want. I was
thinking that the meaning of "update" option for yum was: it updates
only the installed packages and do not installs new ones (except for
dependencies). For the x86_64 arch., no packages pulse-audio* was
installed, so why does yum want to install/update new/i386 packages with
the wrong arch?

Thank you for attention.
