F8 x86-64, fully updated

I had a similar problem after update yesterday

Could not log as root or user to kdm

A pam error was given "somewhere" forgotten where !

I thought it was a kdm error and over wrote /etc/kde/kdm/kdmrc with
kdmrc.rpmnew
init 3;init 5 and I could log in again !!

I assumed that it was my old kdmrc, that yum had not replaced, that was
causing the problem.

Can I assume a reboot would have fixed it?

pam-0.99.8.1-17.fc8.x86_64
