After updating pam to pam-0.99.8.1-17, I started seeing pam errors
in /var/log/secure. Messages like:

Feb 19 07:01:01 garion crond[12809]: PAM unable to dlopen(/lib64/security/pam_access.so) Feb 19 07:01:01 garion crond[12809]: PAM [error: /lib64/libpam.so.0: version `LIBPAM_MODUTIL_1.1' not found (required by /lib64/security/pam_access.so)] Feb 19 07:01:01 garion crond[12809]: PAM adding faulty module: /lib64/security/pam_access.so

and

Feb 20 18:25:00 garion gdm-binary[14848]: pam_unix(gdm:session): session opened for user rwuest by (uid=0) Feb 20 18:25:01 garion gdm-binary[14848]: PAM unable to dlopen(/lib64/security/pam_limits.so) Feb 20 18:25:01 garion gdm-binary[14848]: PAM [error: /lib64/libpam.so.0: version `LIBPAM_MODUTIL_1.1' not found (required by /lib64/security/pam_limits.so)] Feb 20 18:25:01 garion gdm-binary[14848]: PAM adding faulty module: /lib64/security/pam_limits.so

I could not log in through gdm, although I could at a VT.

So I did an 'rpm -U --force pam-0.99.8.1-10.fc8.x86_64.rpm pam-devel-0.99.8.1-10.fc8.x86_64.rpm'

I'm not sure if cron is fixed, but I can login through gdm now.
