Yup, <nods sagely> just like in "Hitchhiker's Guide", you gotta know
your question before you'll understand the answer. And, if this thread
didn't range far afield, I wouldn't have gotten the message from Les on
how-to make a repair to a scratched CD. That's why I read pretty much
every post from this list, I never know what gems might be just lying
around waiting to be picked up. There's always the Del key. I guess it
helps that I have sleep apnea!  

Plus, there may be two dozen lurkers in the OP's situation that
benefited from the alternative solutions posted and will make good use
of them.
