A fire safe is absolutely the wrong place to keep media like disks and tapes

Fire safes work on the principle that they release steam when exposed to a
fire. That steam is intended to keep the contents of the safe from catching on
fire, obviously, but the safe is designed to protect paper records and the steam
is hot enough to melt and destroy digital media.
There are fire safes built for digital media. What you say is definitely true for a safe not specifically rated for digital media.
