Having once again noticed that there is an "extreme cold" weather warning
issued for my area for this afternoon and tonight (dropping to -52 degrees in

be able to get a pop-up notification of weather warnings on my desktop.

I use the gnome weather applet, but to the best of my current knowledge it
doesn't have the capability of automatically reporting weather warnings.

Is there something else that can do that?

I have an NOAA weather radio - and am rather dissapointed.
It's set to go off when there is a weather alert, and sometimes it does - but I've been home and seen several alerts on the television (cutting into what I was watching) that the NOAA radio was completely silent on.

It's almost like (for my area anyway) what's the point? It seems to me that if it is important enough for the emergency broadcast system surely it should have triggered the NOAA radio.

Maybe your area is better.
